Why do I get notifications from Google Chrome

In 2020, browsing the web is nothing like it was ten years ago. Creators are now finding new ways to reach a large audience. They use email marketing, newsletters, pop videos, notifications for each publication, etc. This may make sense to digital marketers, but the end user may not like the forced content. Today, many users complain and are often baffled to receive notifications from websites they have visited only once and from pop-ups in the Google Chrome browser.

Why do I get notifications from Google Chrome

Google Chrome, the world’s most popular web browser, has added ways to unclutter the browsing experience. By changing the settings and taking appropriate action, you can completely stop or allow only relevant notifications from the Google Chrome browser.

In this article, we will talk about all the possible scenarios explaining why you get notifications from Google Chrome and how to change them. We’ll cover Google Chrome on the desktop as well as its mobile apps on Android and iOS. Let’s start.

Note: when I mention the Google Chrome desktop, it includes both the Windows and Mac apps because the Google Chrome browser is identical in appearance and functionality on both platforms.

Block notifications from various websites

When a user installs a new application on the phone, the application requests various permissions to function properly. We mainly allow permission. The same habit applies to websites. When you visit a website, it asks for your permission to send notifications and store cookie data on your device. In accordance with our custom, we also authorize these authorizations.

There are two ways to turn off these notifications on the Google Chrome desktop.

Disable address bar notifications

You can individually turn off the notification in the address bar. Follow the steps below.

Step 1: Visit the relevant website and tap the little padlock icon in the address bar.

2nd step: Here you will find the Notification menu. Tap it and block notifications.

Step 4: It will open the site settings menu, go down to the notification option and turn off notifications for the website.

Use guest mode or profile selector

If you use Google Chrome on one computer among family members, you can receive notifications from services like Google Drive, Google Docs, etc. from other users’ profiles. Let me share my script.

I share my Windows laptop with my wife. She uses Google apps like Google Docs and Google Drive on Google Chrome for personal stuff. When I use Google Chrome on the same laptop using its account, I occasionally receive Google Docs and Google Drive notifications from Doc comments or change permission notifications. In such cases, it is not advisable to deactivate notifications from this service.

To avoid such situations, you must use Guest mode or add another profile to the Google Chrome browser.

You can tap the profile icon in the search bar and use Google Chrome as a guest. If you plan to use it regularly, select add> write account name, select the appropriate image. It will open a separate Google Chrome profile and ask you to sign in using Google account credentials.

Add a new profile

The next time you open the web browser, make sure you use your profile to surf to avoid notifications from other profiles.

On Android phone

The notification situation is even worse on Android, as website notifications can quickly fill the notification area on the operating system. My mom’s Android phone stays full of notifications from Chrome websites because it unknowingly allows websites to send notifications.

On mobile, you can receive content suggestion notifications based on your usage. Follow the steps below to turn off Chrome notifications on Android phones.

Step 1: Open the Google Chrome browser and tap the three-dot menu above.

2nd step: Dive into Settings> Notifications and it will open the system notification panel to adjust.
