Which Reminders App is Best for iPhone

Which Reminders App is Best for iPhone

Investing in a dedicated task management app can help you keep things organized and get things done throughout the day. For Apple users, the default option remains with the Reminders app. The majority stick to it. Until the introduction of iOS 13, the default Reminders app on the iPhone was barely touched. Third-party developers have filled the void with great alternatives like Todoist, Things 3, TickTick, and more.

Reminders vs ticktick

The scenario changed with the iOS 13 and iOS 14 update. Apple doubled down on the Reminders app and gave it a huge makeover in the looks and functions department. The app can now compete with established options like TickTick on the App Store.

TickTick is another feature-rich task management app. It’s a complete package with multiplatform availability, Pomodoro, habit tracking, etc.

We’ll compare Apple reminders to TickTick in this article and conclude which task manager app is best for you to use. Let’s start.

Cross-platform availability

As expected, Apple Reminders is exclusive to Apple’s software platform. This means that it is only available on Apple hardware, including iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

TickTick is a cross-platform solution. It is accessible on iOS, Android, Windows and Mac.

User interface

Apple’s Reminders app finally received the much-needed redesign in terms of design. The home page now displays the four default tabs (which can’t be customized, however) and the lists below.

Slide your finger up to search in tasks and use the Edit button to rearrange or delete lists. You can’t access settings from the app itself, like all other iOS apps. You need to go to Settings> Reminders to make any changes.

TickTick looks like a truly native iOS app with a lower menu bar. You can also use the hamburger menu to browse menus and sections.

Theme support is the best I have ever seen, beyond the usual light / dark theme. You can implement colorful patterns according to seasons and well-known cities around the world.

Adding tasks and details

The task adding experience received special attention in the Apple Reminders app.

You can now tap Add Reminder, and the small menu will allow you to add a due date / time, images and mark a reminder. You can also use location-based reminders that notify you of the task when you get home, office, or in a car.

With just one click on the info icon, you can add notes, url, set reminder frequency and prioritize it.

Apple reminders take care of all subtasks. It is hidden in the info menu. I use it to manage small projects. User gets Siri functionality with Apple Reminders. You can ask Siri to set a reminder with the due date and time. I use it frequently and it works perfectly.

TickTick allows you to create multiple tasks as well as lists to organize your tasks.

My only problem with TickTick is that most of the useful functions are buried in the settings menu. You have to go to Settings> Tab Bar to activate the Pomo timer, search function or the usual channel functionality.

Sharing

With Apple Reminders, you can invite and share an entire list with others. Tap the three-dot menu above and select Add people and share link through the default iOS share menu.

TickTick allows you to share the list in single words. You can also use the Copy Link option on the Share menu, but the recipient must be on TickTick to make changes.

Additional functions

Apple Reminders allows you to create personalized lists. You can add logo and accent color to give it a personal touch. The app also supports iOS 14 widgets and the ability to add new tasks through a long press menu.

My favorite features in TickTick are Pomodoro and Habit tracker. You can add habits and complete them to see an interesting chain of habit building in the calendar widget. Pomodoro helps you track productive hours throughout the app.

Other features include Siri shortcuts, notes feature with markdown support, customizable tabs, and more.

Backup and price

By default, all entries in Apple Reminders are saved to iCloud. The app is completely free on iOS and macOS.

TickTick uses its own servers to store user data. You can sign in using account credentials and sync your data across all supported devices.

TickTick is free. But the premium $ 2 per month subscription allows you to unlock features like theme support, habit tracking, app icon customization, and more.

Manage tasks like a pro

Both apps have nailed the groundwork with various functions ahead of time. Apple Reminders is free, has location-based tasks, and works with Siri without any issues.

TickTick is more than just a task management app. You can easily replace 3-4 productivity apps with one software. As for me, I use a Windows laptop with iPhone XR, so TickTick becomes a natural fit for me. And you? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
