Which Android skin is best for you

Realme has made waves in the smartphone industry. All Realme phones come with exceptional hardware for the price, but at the same time, they used Color OS on top of Android, which was not suitable for early adopters.

The company recently announced Realme UI, the Color OS-based Android skin, to ship with the company’s new device and update existing devices. They take a path similar to that of the OnePlus Oxygen operating system to go with the Android look and feel.

Now that Realme is developing flagship devices with high-end processors, these phones will be compared to their rivals. High-end Realme devices are comparable to OnePlus phones in terms of hardware and differ mainly in terms of software experience. So, if you are mistaken between two offers due to the Android skin, read the comparison below between the Realme user interface and Oxygen OS. Let’s start.

Note: For comparison, I used OnePlus 7 Pro running the Oxygen operating system based on Android 10 and Realme X, which was recently upgraded to Realme UI running on Android 10.

Customization options

The Realme user interface and the Oxygen operating system are packed with customization options. Let’s start with Oxygen OS. Long press on the home screen and dive into Oxygen OS settings. From there, you can change the layout of the Home screen, change the swipe down gesture, notification points, apply new icon packs, etc.

Realme is in the same boat as OnePlus. You can change the mode of the home screen, the layout of the applications, add different effects, drag gestures down, etc.

Realme added the Smart Assistant function in the side drawer. Which contains advertisements of applications and games from the Realme store.

There are, however, two useful additions. Quick functions allow you to access useful tools like scanner, translator, Google search or any application from a simple swipe. In addition, there is an option to add favorite contacts.

Characteristics

Additional out-of-the-box functionality is one of the reasons why the majority prefer an original Android vanilla OEM skin. Realme UI and Oxygen OS are full of it.

Oxygen OS offers native screen recording with audio support, excellent playback mode (something Google hasn’t yet added to Android stock), and a scrolling screenshot. OnePlus offers a dedicated game mode, which is triggered during the game to provide a better experience and activate the NPD mode during the game.

The company also offers an application cloning function, which allows you to create a copy of popular social media applications and allows you to use two accounts with it. My favorite feature is Zen mode. It allows you to limit the use of the device and recommends enjoying the environment called life.

OnePlus offers the App Lock feature, something that is missing from the Android stock and something that I see from normal users opting for certain apps.

Taking Realme on the App Clone feature is better than Oxygen OS. It’s not only limited to social apps, but you can also clone apps like Amazon, Google Pay, Skype and Swiggy (food delivery app).

Realme has added the sidebar function, which allows you to pin the most used shortcuts such as screenshot, recording screen and applications. You can also change its position and transparency.

I like the Smart Driving function. When activated, it activates NPD while driving, blocks in-app voice and video calls, and automatically sends a message after rejecting a call.

Which Android user interface is better

As you can see in the comparison above, Oxygen OS and Realme UI have advantages and disadvantages compared to each other. OnePlus with Google Now integration offers a useful Zen mode, and has a better (subjective) appearance. Realme UI defends itself with tons of features like Smart Driving, Assistive Ball, App Clone, and more.
