Solitaire was a favorite built-in game in Windows systems. In fact, it has been available as a free game since Windows 3.0. Although it has changed over the years, it is still part of Windows 10. Whether you are looking for the built-in version or an alternative, there are many Windows 10 solitaire applications to choose from in the Microsoft Store and online.
Despite the strange name, PySolFC is one of Windows 10’s lone apps. Unlike the other options on this list, it’s open source. Although it is not available in the Microsoft Store, it is free to download. It is also available for Linux and Mac. Personally, it’s my favorite and it’s been years.
If you don’t take care of the old look of the interface, you can’t really ask for more. It is ad-free and includes hundreds of games. This includes variants of classic Mahjong solitaire, FreeCell and more. You can save games in progress, view statistics, and customize your maps and backgrounds a bit.
Microsoft Solitaire Collection
The Windows Solitaire app got a major upgrade in Windows 8.1. While many would argue that Microsoft has made the situation worse (including me), it’s hard to deny that it has a lot more functionality than the previous solitary app. The main issues are the increasing number of ads and that you have to pay a monthly subscription to remove them.
However, you can play five different solitaire games. This includes Klondike, Spider, FreeCell, TriPeaks and Pyramid. If you don’t mind the 30 second ads between each hand, the free version works really well. In addition, you can customize themes, which includes the ability to add your own images. There are also daily challenges.
It’s already included with Windows 10. Of course, if you’re like me and a Windows update has removed it, you’ll have to recover from Microsoft Store.
It’s not chic, but Simple solitaire is easily one of the best simple Windows 10 solitaire apps available. If you just want to play basic solitaire without any extras, you will love this app. It loads faster than any other application on this list. It looks and looks more like the classic free solitaire that came with Windows before the Microsoft Solitaire collection. In addition, you can customize your theme and cards.
The only drawback is the banner ad at the bottom of the window. However, it is easy to ignore and not as intrusive as most ads.
Spider Solitaire Collection
If you prefer Spider Solitaire, Spider Solitaire Collection is one of the most popular Windows 10 solitaire apps. It offers four versions of the popular game. Customize colors, backgrounds and cards. There are occasional ads but nothing too intrusive. In-app purchases are available without ads, but this is unfortunately becoming the norm for most gaming applications, even on Windows 10. The only downside is that you won’t find the classic version of the Klondike.
If you prefer solitary Klondike, the same developer also created Klondike Solitaire Collection. It has four variations of the game and looks almost identical to the Spider Solitaire game.
SolSuite is the only completely premium app on this list. However, with the exception of PySolFC, all other applications are ad-supported and offer in-app purchases. With SolSuite, you pay a one-time fee for full access without ads. The company has been around since 1998 and has become a reliable alternative to Windows solitaire.
It offers an impressive 742 varieties of solitaire. There is even a special game for children. Personalize your game with different themes, card sizes and hundreds of card back options. A free trial is available, but after that, the game costs $ 19.95. However, at the time of writing, the site was offering a promotional offer at half price.
