No man is an island.
In today’s reference, it would look something like “No smartphone is an island”. Although phone manufacturers like OnePlus ship their phones with a set of apps and lots of built-in features, they’re not enough to get the most out of them. Any phone, whether the OnePlus 8 or the OnePlus 8 Pro needs its share of third-party applications, to increase its potential as a flagship product and well, to elevate your experience as well.
In this article, we have compiled a list of essential Android apps for OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro in order to maximize its potential.
As it will be a long post, let’s go right now, okay?
1. Type like a pro: SwiftKey
One of the first strong points of the SwiftKey is its impeccable prediction and automatic correction. I wouldn’t be lying if I said that this keyboard could predict what you are thinking. And the extra gestures and swiping soften the chord. All you have to do is swipe gently over the letters, and the closest possible words will appear on the prediction board. No kidding.
Apart from that, it brings together a neat set of features and customizations. For example, you can add a number line at the top or add a series of text shortcuts to make your work easier.
Second, there is a handy clipboard that remembers your copied text. So yes, you no longer have to fight if you copy more than two text extracts at the same time before pasting them.
One of my favorite features is to move the keyboard left and right, which makes typing easier with one hand.
In addition, it supports multiple languages
Did you know: Microsoft bought SwiftKey in February 2016.
2. Better task management: concept
Notion recently made headlines for all the right reasons. This productivity driven app is known for both its unique organizational features and note-taking capabilities.
Although the app may not have an intuitive interface like most of the apps on this list, but let me assure you that there is more to its humble appearance.
The application works on the principles of “blocking”. A block can be any element, such as a task, an image or a link. The best part is that you can save links to your favorite article or any interesting article for future reference. If you click the Share icon on your browser, Notion will appear in the list of applications. All you have to do is select the page, enter the details and the app will do the rest.
The best part is that this notion has apps for Android, iOS, Windows and Mac, and also bundles a web version.
And these are just the tip of the iceberg. If you can’t wait to get the most out of this tool, check out the top 11 Notion tips and tricks, Notion vs Google Docs and the 11 best Notion templates to boost your productivity.
3. Improve these photos: PicsArt
There is no shortage of photo editing apps on the Google Play Store. Although we’ve been a Snapseed fan for the longest time, the lack of cool new features and customization tools has made us look for greener pastures elsewhere.
The search ended with PicsArt, thanks to its countless filters, effects and tools. And the ability to create stickers and replace backgrounds made the change easier.
The app is easy and simple to use. All options are carefully arranged at the front and you should choose them according to the requirements of the image.
However, some of the features of PicsArt are hidden behind a paid wall. Upgrading to the paid version also unlocks the ad-free version.
If you don’t want to get started with payments and are looking for a simple photo editing app, Snapseed does the trick. There are no annoying announcements in between, and the simple, straightforward interface makes things much easier. In addition to that, it allows you to edit RAW images.
Of course, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro capture beautiful images. But as we like to say to Guiding Tech, pressing the shutter button is just the beginning. And the journey is only complete when you balance the look of the photo via post processing, and the tools above allow you to do that.
4. For a different perspective: GCam
If you think the OnePlus 8 camera leaves a lot to be desired, especially when it comes to HDR, you should give the GCam Mod a try. OnePlus phones support Google’s Camera2 API, making it easy to port the camera app.
You need to load an APK version of GCam. After that, you will appreciate the amazing features of the Google camera, such as Night Sight, HDR + and Portrait. And, portrait mode is to die for. Okay, I may have exaggerated a bit, but you understand my drift.
And this is not the end of the story. GCam also comes with its editing suite. With it, you can dabble with conventional filters as well as with pop colors. This is in addition to the image editing options.
5. Manage files better: Solid Explorer File Manager
The OnePlus Stock Files app is effective for viewing your files and photos. And features like FileDash make it handy for long-term use. However, if you are looking for additional functionality, it is best to use file managers like Solid Explorer.
One of the main strengths of this application is the two-panel interface, which makes it easy to move files from one location to another with a simple drag and drop function.
While FileDash also lets you move files to and from Google Drive, Solid Explorer goes a step further and lets you add cloud storage accounts from Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and more.
However, the most used feature is the ability to create and extract ZIP and 7ZIP formats in addition to supporting the extraction of TAR and RAR files.
Solid Explorer comes with a 7-day free trial, and upgrading to the paid version will cost you $ 1.99.
6. Explode this curved screen: Hidey Hole & Zedge
With a high refresh rate and a Fluid AMOLED screen, the display of OnePlus phones is a sight to behold. Therefore, it makes sense to decorate it with a large wallpaper.
If you want to save battery on your OnePlus device, it’s best to invest in an app like AmoledPix or Darkops. They have great AMOLED wallpapers that do their best to spice up the home screen.
However, if you don’t want to be bound by a particular type of wallpaper, you can check out Zedge.
This one has a multitude of wallpapers distributed in several categories. From AMOLED and neon images to sea beaches and superheroes, the list goes on and on. Note that occasional advertising in between can harm your experience. However, you can choose to delete it by switching to the paid version.
HideyHole is another application worth mentioning. It gained importance when the Samsung Galaxy S10 series debuted. The wallpapers of the application can accommodate the perforated camera. While the backgrounds of the Galaxy S10e perfectly match the OnePlus 8, the cameras of the two phones are in the opposite direction.
Fortunately, the OnePlus editing suite is capable enough to do the simple job of flipping the images. Sure, you need to take a few extra steps, but some of the photos in the app are worth the extra effort.
7. Protect your data: NordVPN
It’s no secret that our activities on the Internet are closely monitored. Whether you’re browsing Instagram or browsing certain random sites, you’ll find targeted ads almost everywhere. Therefore, it is better to switch to a VPN network like Nord VPN.
NordVPN is one of the fastest VPN services and has a large network of servers. In addition to giving you the mask of anonymity and bypassing national restrictions, this VPN also allows you to unlock US Netflix. Yes, you read that right.
And features like Internet Kill Switch, App Kill Switch, NordLynx add to the experience. Windows and Mac applications have some additional features such as Onion Over Tor and dedicated IP.
A NordVPN annual plan costs around $ 6.99 per month and a monthly plan will cost you around $ 11.95. When registering, you can use the service on 6 devices simultaneously, whether it’s your Smart TV or your Windows 10 laptop.

Get the most out of your OnePlus 8
Aside from that, you can get a PDF reader like Adobe Acrobat Reader, since the OnePlus 8 doesn’t offer a native PDF reader. If you’ve started listening to podcasts, you should definitely try Podcast Addict.
One of the things I like about OnePlus and OxygenOS phones is that they don’t include as much bloatware as other manufacturers. And at the same time, the built-in features like the screenshot editor or the screen recorder only make the trip interesting.
