Remove the Share with Skype option from the context menu

After an upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10, the sharing with Skype feature is enabled in the right-click context menu. If you are looking for a way to remove Skype sharing option, follow this post.

Most likely, you must have seen “Share with SkypeIn the right click context menu of your Windows 10. However, this is a very useful feature (especially for business users) but most of us don’t really use it or ask us to.

For example, if you right click on any of your files, a context menu will appear with some options and one of them is Share with Skype. Check the image below:

Using the following steps, you can easily turn off or remove Share with Skype option from the right-click context menu of any file.

How do I turn off sharing with the Skype option?

We will use the registry method or a small change in the Windows registry to remove the Share with Skype feature.

In the future, if you need this option, just go back the steps and Share with Skype come will start appearing in the context menu.

Step 1. hurry Win + R to open the Run dialog box and enter regedit then press Enter button. This will open Windows Registry Editor.

2nd step. Follow the path below:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesPackagedComPackage

Step 3. Now once you expand Package key locate Microsoft.SkypeApp. In my system it is like below:

Microsoft.SkypeApp_15.68.96.0_x86__kzf8qxf38zg5c

To note: This key may be different on your computer depending on the version of Skype you have installed, but the initials (Microsoft.SkypeApp) will be the same.

Step 4. Develop Microsoft.SkypeApp_15.68.96.0_x86__kzf8qxf38zg5c or the wrench shown at your end and follow the path below:

Step 5. The moment you selected the key {776DBC8D-7347-478C-8D71-791E12EF49D8}, in the right pane, find the string value DllPath which contains the data value Skype SkypeContext.dll

This is the key that is responsible for displaying the “Share with Skype” option in the right-click context menu of any file.

Step 6. To remove the Share with Skype option, double-click DllPath string and remove or clear the value Skype SkypeContext.dll and click Okay to save the settings.

Close the registry editor.

The above process will have an immediate effect on your Windows.

To check, now go back to any file and right click. The Share with Skype option is no longer available in the context menu.

Restore sharing with Skype option in the context menu

In the future, if you need or decide to restore the “Share with Skype” option from the context menu:

  • Go to step 6 above and set the value Skype SkypeContext.dll for DllPath and click Okay to save the settings.
  • You will get the return option in the right click context menu

Important note:

If you are using an older version of Windows 10 or Skype. You may need to remove the following key to remove the ‘Share with Skype’ option:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*shellShareWithSkype

The moment you delete the key, it will remove that option from your right click context menu. Reference article
