When you see a message, it’s linked to a different Apple ID, which means you’re trying to set up AirTag or other third-party products already linked to a different Apple ID. To resolve this issue, ask the previous owner to remove AirTag from your Apple ID.
Disconnect your AirTag from Apple ID
You cannot use AirTag until it has been removed from the previous owner’s Apple ID. Apple cannot help you remove the AirTag from the original owner’s Apple ID; you must ask the previous owner to remove it for you. Here are the steps to unlock AirTag or any third party Apple ID.
- You need to open the Find My app on your device and then tap on the Items tab.
- Here you will see the list of linked items on your device. Now just tap on the item you want to disconnect.
- Finally, tap on the delete item and confirm it to remove it. If the item you want to remove is not within the Bluetooth range, you will see the message “AirTag Not Found” or “Not Found”. Just tap Remove.
Note: If the AirTag was not within range during removal, then he / she must first repair the AirTag when the new owner wants to configure the device.
