Youtube has prevented, with the definitive launch of iOS 14, that users can make use of the function Picture in Picture on the iPhone.
When iOS 14 was presented, one of the novelties that came to iOS 14 was the inclusion of Picture in Picture (PiP) on iPhones, a function that was present in iPad since iOS 9. Many versions of ios later, it was available on iPhone and we are sure that the first thought of many users was the same: Youtube.
And indeed. At the time, although it seems that the video platform was reluctant to use this function, rumors began to arrive that it would finally have PiP or Picture in Picture. And not only that, but they also began to see each other the first tests with the PiP function.
Picture in Picture on YouTube on iPhone will become a Premium subscription feature
In fact, in the different betas of iOS 14 users found they could use Picture in Picture in Youtube since Safari, something that made many users happy. But, finally, since Youtube They have removed this possibility and you can no longer use that feature.
As you can imagine, this function has not disappeared for everyone. And is that Youtube has decided to incorporate it as a function Premium of the subscription that you offer in a similar way to other services, thus giving more value to the subscription. The same thing happened with the function of playing in the background.
This is probably due to the fact that from YouTube they know perfectly how many people use their platform on Safari. The main use is to listen to music and, of course, they want them to make use of and subscribe to the subscription service. Something logical, since thanks to YouTube you can access almost all the songs.
We will see if finally, this functionality is layer in all versions of the video platform. At the moment, the only solution seems to be to activate the Desktop Version in Safari and, in this way, if we can use Picture in Picture PiP from the website of Youtube in Safari at iPhone.
