iPhone Turns on and Gets Stuck on Start-up

Your iPhone may crash at startup and you may see the Apple logo or the blue or red screen. If you have similar issues, it could be the iOS or iPadOS on your iPhone or iPad. Try the next step and try to fix it.

  1. Use a data cable that comes with your device and connect it to your Mac or PC. If you are using a Mac running MacOS Catalina 10.15 or later, open the Finder. If you are using a Mac with Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or a PC, then open the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Using Finder or iTunes, select your iPhone or iPad from the interface and follow the steps:

    Put your device in recovery mode

    • iPad with Face ID models:
      Press and release the Volume-Up button.
      Press and release the Volume-Down button.
      Press now and hold the Top button until the device restarts and hold the Top button until the iPad enters recovery mode.
    • iPhone 8 or newer models:
      Press and release the Volume-Up button.
      Press and release the Volume-Down button.
      Press and hold the Side button until you see that your device is in recovery mode.
    • iPhone 7, 7 Plus and iPod touch (7th generation):
      Press and hold the Top (or Side) and the Volume-Down buttons simultaneously until you see the recovery mode screen. Learn more: how to recharge the iPhone
  3. Once you have successfully placed your device in recovery mode, you will see the following screen on your Finder or iTunes screen. So select the update option to reinstall the iOS or iPadOS without losing data.
  4. Make sure you have a good internet connection, it downloads the software for your iPhone or iPad. Your device may be in recovery mode if the download is longer than 15 minutes. You need to repeat steps 2 and 3 to put your device back in recovery mode and update the software.
