Are Microsoft teams provided with filters for video

The answer is no. Microsoft Teams does not offer native filter support. However, just as Zoom supports virtual backgrounds, Microsoft has also provided this option. As a bonus, we explained how to use background effects in Microsoft Teams at the end of the article.

So how do you use filters in Microsoft Teams? Well, we will take the help of the Snapchat desktop app – Snap Camera. To do this, you must switch the default camera in Microsoft Teams to Snap Camera. It is only after that that you can use any Snap Camera filter such as potato, banana, etc. in your videoconference while using teams.

How to Add Snapchat Filters to Microsoft Teams

The overall process has three main stages. Let’s see them.

1. Download Snap Camera

It is essential to download Snap Camera to your computer to use its filters in other applications such as Microsoft Teams. Your computer must be running at least Windows 7 SP1 (64 bit) or newer and macOS 10.11 El Capitan or newer for Snap Camera to work properly.

When you are on the Snap Camera download page, be sure to scroll down and check the box next to Privacy Policy. Click Download for Mac or PC as required.

2. Run Snap Camera in the background

Launch the Snap Camera application on your computer. Now select a filter you want to use in Microsoft Teams. Then you need to open the Microsoft Teams app without closing Snap Camera. In other words, let Snap Camera run in the background.

Note: Whenever Snap Camera is running in the background, it will continue to use your camera’s resources. So be aware of it.

In case your computer supports two cameras, click the settings icon at the top of the instant camera to change the input camera to use for the instant camera.

3. Change the default camera in Microsoft Teams

Now is the time to change your input camera in the Microsoft Teams desktop app. You can do this in two ways. Keep the default instant camera for all video calls. You can also change it for an active call. Let’s check both methods.

Note: If you get the “No camera available” error in Snap Camera, you must close Snap Camera and Microsoft Teams. Then first open Snap Camera and change the default camera setting in Microsoft Teams.

Method 1: Add a filter to the current call

Step 1: When you are on a call, click on the three-dot icon at the bottom of the call screen. Select View device settings from the menu.

2nd step: The device settings screen opens. Click the drop-down list under Camera. Select Snap Camera.

If Snap Camera is running in the background (and it should be), you will see the filter you selected in Snap Camera appear in Microsoft Teams.

Method 2: Add a filter for all calls

To use cool default face filters for all incoming and outgoing calls on Microsoft Teams, you need to make Snap Camera your default camera app in team settings.

To do this, follow these steps:

Step 1: In the Microsoft Teams app, click the profile photo icon at the top. Select Settings from the menu.

2nd step: Go to Devices in the left panel and select Snap Camera from the Camera drop-down list.

How to Remove Microsoft Team Filters

If you no longer want to use filters, repeat the above mentioned steps and replace the camera with your real camera. This will automatically prevent filters from appearing in your video.

Bonus tip: use background effects in Microsoft teams

To add a virtual background to Microsoft Teams, follow these steps:

Step 1: When you are on a call in Microsoft Teams, click the three-dot icon at the bottom. Select Show background effects from the menu.

2nd step: A new window will open. Select the background you want to use. To preview it, click the Preview button. Your video will be disabled for others.

Note: Only you will see the background when you preview it.

If you are satisfied with the background, click “Apply and activate video”.
