Video conference applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Hangouts, etc. are more important than ever. You can participate in your meetings from anywhere in the world. Fortunately, these apps have taken care of small details in their apps. Although too many people use it, it’s absolutely great, it can get overwhelming. Fortunately, the majority of these apps offer a mute option. In this article, we will explain how to mute and hide others on the Zoom mobile app on your phone.
If the mute option was not there, hosting virtual meetings and webinars would not be an easy task. Imagine random voices and sounds coming from everyone’s microphone at the same time. It would be a mess.
But luckily, you can mute and unmute the sound on Zoom calls on your Android and iPhone. Let’s see how to do it.
Note: The steps are the same for Android and iPhone, unless otherwise indicated.
How to turn off the Zoom call before joining a meeting from the phone
If you want to mute your sound from the start, Zoom has an option for that. Tap the Join option in the Zoom app to join a meeting. Then activate the toggle next to Do not connect to audio. This will mute your audio from the start.

How to mute the sound on a Zoom call
There are two ways to approach this: mute all participants and mute the speakers.
1. Mute all participants during a Zoom call
If you are hosting a Zoom meeting, you can mute and unmute attendees during a call. You can deactivate all participants or manually choose the participants you want to deactivate.
To do this, follow these steps on Android and iPhone:
Step 1: Launch the Zoom application and create a meeting.
2nd step: Tap the Participants tab at the bottom. You will be redirected to the list of participants.
Stage 3: Tap on Mute at the bottom. This will mute everyone. In case you want to reactivate everyone, press Reactivate All. Confirm on the next screen.
Note: If you do not want participants to reactivate, uncheck the “Allow participants to reactivate” option. It is only after this that you can turn on the participants’ audio, and they cannot do it themselves.
If you want to deactivate or reactivate only certain people, tap the participant’s name. Then choose Mute or Unmute from the menu.
Note: In case the participant has muted and you reactivate him, he will receive a notification telling him that the host wishes to reactivate him. It is only when they give their authorization that they will be muted.
Otherwise, if you want to mute attendees from the start of the meeting, tap the three-dot icon at the bottom of the meeting screen and access the meeting settings.
Activate the mute at the entrance.

2. Turn off the speaker during a Zoom call
If you participate in a meeting, you have no right to mute the sound of others. However, you can turn off your speaker in the Zoom app to reduce incoming audio during a call. To hear the sound, you will need to bring your phone to your ear.
To use this feature, tap the speaker icon in the upper left corner of a Zoom meeting. To deactivate it, press it again.
