One of the most used features is the Amazon Alexa flash briefing. You get a quick overview of the latest news and weather by simply saying “Alexa, play my flash briefing.“However, you may not like the default news sources. You don’t have to worry about them. Like most of Alexa’s features and skills, it can be customized to your needs.
Change Amazon Alexa Flash Briefing Sources
First of all, if you haven’t activated Flash Briefing yet, you can do it while you configure the sources you want to use. The simplest way is to simply say, “Alexa, activate Flash Briefing,” to begin.
1. To edit or modify Amazon Alexa Flash Briefing sources, open your Alexa app, open the menu, and go to Settings.
2. Press “Flash Briefing”.
3. To add new sources, press the “+” symbol next to “Add content”.
Then tap on each source you want one at a time. When you select one, read the details and tap Activate if you want to add it to your daily Flash briefing. We will cover more research in a moment.
Any source skills you add appear in the Flash Briefing section of your Alexa app.
Turn sources on and off
If you want to deactivate a source for a certain period of time without deleting it from your account, simply deactivate it. You can reactivate the source at any time by reactivating it.
In the Flash Briefing section of your Alexa app, tap the switch next to the source you want to turn off. It will go to the Disabled section of the Flash Briefing window.
Reorganize the content of the Flash briefing
Further personalize the Amazon Alexa flash briefing by placing your news sources in the order in which you want to hear them.
Open Flash Briefing and press Edit. Then hold any source and drag it to the desired position.
This part is a little more complicated. Honestly, Amazon could have facilitated this, and I hope the company will do so in the future.
Disabling a source will not remove it from your account. He’s just temporarily suspended. If you want to delete it completely, you must open Flash Briefing and press “Add content”.
Tap the search icon and enter the name of the skill you want to delete. Tap the skill when it appears. Tap “Disable Skill” to remove it.
Search for sources
This is the most difficult part of customizing Amazon Alexa’s flash briefing. You can scroll through the thousands of results, but who has time for that?
There are two easier ways to find the content you want. First of all, if you are using the Alexa app, use the search function in Flash Briefing. When you choose “Add Content”, you will see a search icon at the top right. Enter a keyword for what you are looking for.
The second method is to use the Amazon website. Open the category menu to the left of the search field. Select “Echo & Alexa”. Choose Alexa Skills.
Type Flash Briefing in the search field. Although it does show as many results like the app does, it will give you the choice between news, sports and weather. You can also just search for the desired source on the Amazon site rather than using the app if you want to see more results at a glance.
Most major media outlets have created Flash Briefing skills. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, contact the source to see if she has a skill. If not, ask them if they would be willing to create one. Showing interest will show them that there is an audience for their skills.
Besides customizing your Flash briefing, you can also learn new skills with Alexa, and you also need to configure Alexa correctly to avoid accidental voice purchases
