How to Change Default Browser from Safari to Any Other, iPhone or iPad

Those who would like to use a third-party browser instead of Safari on iPhone or iPad can change the default browser to your favorite like Chrome, Firefox or DuckDuckGo. The default browser is built by Apple on your iOS devices. When you click on a link from another app, it opens in the Safari browser. You may not change it and set another browser as default. But in iOS 14 you can change the default browsers. Let’s see how to do it.

Change the default browser on iPhone or iPad

  1. Settings app

Open the iOS settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
Scroll down and find third-party browsers like Chrome, Firefox or DuckDuckGo. In my case, Google installed Chrome on my iPhone, so I tapped Chrome.

  2. Chrome settings

Here you can see that Safari is the default browser. Tap the “Default Browser App” option. to change it.

  4. Test

To check if you have successfully set Chrome as your default browser, simply tap on a link from any app like WhatsApp or Messages and you will see that it opens in the browser you choose as the default browser app.

Apple makes it easy in iOS 14. In earlier iOS versions, when you tap a link to open, the Safari browser automatically launches and the link opens. If you want to open a link in your favorite browser, you have to do it manually. Copy the link, open the browser like Chrome and paste it.
