8 best ways to fix keyboard lag in Windows 10

Most of us spend our days hammering the keyboard. This is so true for writers, coders, translators and other professionals whose main job is to type. Seeing how the keyboard is one of the most important accessories for all computer users, a keyboard lag on Windows computers can be fatal.

Well, it looks like you are typing really fast, but the text is not showing up on the screen in real time. Sometimes there is a lag or delay of a fraction of a second or more. It can disrupt your thought process and lead to unwanted trouble. Let’s find out what we can do about it.

1. Restart and reconnect

Do you use an external keyboard to type? I would suggest a quick restart after saving your work and reconnecting the keyboard once. This simple little trick worked for me once. It won’t take more than a few moments. The same advice applies to wireless keyboard users. I also suggest you check the batteries.

2. Different keyboard

Try a different keyboard if you have a spare to make sure there is nothing wrong with the one you are using. You can also use the current keyboard on another computer to check if it is a software or hardware problem.

3. Disable the filter keys

Step 1: Look for the filter keys in the Start or Settings menu and open it.

Keys on the shelf

The keyboard is one of the most important accessories you own. Most of us don’t even pay attention to it or realize its importance until it stops working. This is where we understand how much we really depend on it. There’s an on-screen keyboard option as well, but it’s really slow to work and useful in an emergency. Also, this option is only practical on touchscreen computers like a tablet or laptop.
