6 of the best grammar apps for Android

Although the automatic correction is excellent, it is not always correct. Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, you can use the wrong “over there” or “your”. This is when grammar apps for Android come in handy. From apps that help you correct yourself when typing to apps that naturally help you improve your grammar skills, turn your Android device into a much more professional grammar tool for all your communications.

1. Grammar – First choice

As a writer, I don’t have a single device without Grammar installed. As I type, Grammarly suggests fixes that I can ignore or accept. From my personal experience, the app works in around 99% of cases. On my phone I use the free version, but there is also a premium version for full functionality. I use the premium version on my desktop, and it’s worth it if you write often.

Installs grammatically like a keyboard on Android. When you activate the keyboard, you will receive grammar features for automatic correction in the free version.

2. Merriam-Webster Dictionary

There’s nothing like a dictionary to help you with your grammar, but who has time to leaf through a real dictionary while texting or composing an email? Try the Android version of Merriam-Webster Dictionary. One thing that really stands out is that you don’t have to know how to spell something to find it. Just use the microphone function to say the word and see your options. You will even find tips on how to use the word in a sentence so that you know you are using the right word in context.

The integrated quizzes help you improve your grammar and even learn new words. It’s a fun everyday tool just for learning new things.

3. Speak correctly

To speak correctly is one of the most unique grammar apps for Android. What I like most is that it is designed for native and non-native speakers. It supports multiple languages, so you will be able to correct your grammar even if you are traveling somewhere and are not fluent in the language.

Make sure you say and spell things correctly using the pronunciation feature. Or enter what you want to say in the text editor. You’ll need to copy and paste the text into the app you want to use when you’re done. Although the ads to buy the premium version are a bit intrusive, the free version works well.

4. English grammar test

If you really want to improve your English grammar, English grammar test is one of the most popular grammar apps for Android. There are over a thousand tasks to teach you all the parts of speech. By the time you’re done, you’ll have a much better understanding of sentence structure, noun-verb agreement, and even spelling. It is completely free but includes advertisements.

A similar option that can work well alongside the English grammar test is another application also called English grammar test, but this one is from the YOBIMI group. It includes over 5,000 questions and illustrations to facilitate learning. If the other application seems too advanced, start with this one instead.

English grammar used with the test works similarly and even has a built-in translation function. Many users say it is easier to use. Between the three, it all depends on user preferences. Personally, I prefer the first and third applications myself.

5. Dictionary.com

Dictionary.com is one of the best grammar apps for Android. It is a lighter version of Merriam-Webster. However, it still offers a dictionary and thesaurus, microphone search, and word-learning activities. There is even a daily quiz every week to help you improve your vocabulary.

If you enjoy learning facts about words, there are interesting stories about the origins of words, common word mistakes and much more.

6. English grammar used

One of the most complete grammar apps for Android is English grammar used. It is based on the book by Raymond Murphy, grammar teacher. His detailed examples certainly help differentiate him from the competition. The only reason I didn’t rate it earlier on this list is that a lot of the content is behind a paid wall. However, if you want to learn grammar from a teacher’s lesson plans, it’s worth buying the premium version.

By using a combination of the above apps, you will impress your friends and family with your sudden mastery of the English language. If, on the contrary, you want to learn a new language, check out this list of the best apps for learning new languages.
