If you want to quickly gauge the opinions of a group of people, a poll is an easy way to do it. Just create the ballot and send it to everyone interested to see what they think. However, there are many online survey services out there, so which one is the best for you? We have compiled this list of the best sites to create a free online survey.
If you want to ask just one question without any special gadgets, look no further than Survey. This service specializes in one thing and one thing: creating a single question with different options.
Strawpoll was once the king of poll creation on the Twitch streaming website, due to its simplicity and speed. Now Twitch has its own polling function; however, Strawpoll is still as useful as ever.
What makes Strawpoll easy to use is that you don’t need to register to use it. All you have to do is type what you want to ask in the top field and then enter all the options below. Don’t worry if you need to enter more than three – the website will automatically add a new field when you complete the previous ones.
If you don’t want people to rig your poll, you can tell it to disallow votes from the same IP address or the same browser cookie.
Once you are done, click “Create Survey” and share the link with your recipients. You can view the results anytime to see how things are going.
2. Survey creator
If you like the idea behind Strawpoll, but are disappointed with the lack of features it has, give it a try Poll creator. This one is a step above Strawpoll with features, making it the best option if you want a quick and easy survey with advanced options.
The main user interface works very similar to Strawpoll: you have a main field for the question and fields for the answers. However, you can add images to each response by clicking the image icon, which allows you to upload an image or add one from an online library.
If you want even more customization, you can click the headers at the top to see the advanced features.
Under the heading “Settings” you can allow users to comment on your quiz. You can configure it so that people can vote once in each period or only once. If you don’t want people looking at the results, you can turn it off and keep the votes blind.
In the Advanced settings window, you can define a period during which the quiz will be active. You can track where voters are coming from and even randomize the positioning of responses.
3. Google Forms
Problems start to arise when you start to go from a single question to a full survey. There are many options – the problem is that most of them are not “really” free.
For example, you have Survey Monkey, which has a free plan. However, free surveys cannot exceed 10 questions or receive more than 40 applicants.
As such, it is difficult to recommend another survey website when Google Forms exist. Google Forms allows you to add as many questions as you want, change its appearance, and do it completely for free.
If you are not sure whether to create your own form, don’t worry. Google Forms has a few examples that correspond to common uses of surveys. If you find one that matches what you want to do, go ahead and use the template to speed things up.
However, if you want to dig deep into creating your own survey, you won’t be disappointed with the functionality of Google Forms. You can configure your survey to have multiple choice responses, drop-down selections, or allow the user to enter their own response. If you need to collect the date and / or time, you can easily add fields that people can use to quickly enter their responses.
As you send your Google form out into the wild, you can monitor its progress in the Responses tab. Once you’ve gathered enough data, you can click a button and export your answers to a Google Sheet effortlessly.

Which one should you choose?
Which option is right for you? Each has its own strengths and weaknesses, and each responds to a specific need.
If you want to ask a single question and get one or more answers, use Strawpoll. Its ease of use and the absence of forced connection allow you to quickly create and share a survey.
If you want to ask just one question, but Strawpoll is a little too simple for you, go with Poll Maker. Its additional options make it fantastic for doing an advanced poll.
However, as soon as you need to ask more than one question, you step into the realm of survey makers. In this situation, Google Forms is one of the few “really free” options with unlimited use and customization.
In fine shape with free forms
If you want to create a quick and free form for others to fill out, there are plenty of options. However, the above can be said to be really free while also being powerful tools that are worth your time.
