You receive a Important SMS on your phone, but you haven’t checked it because you haven’t received the notification. I can imagine how angry you would be. Even I would have started to curse my phone. 1. Restart the phone
The first thing to do is to restart your Android phone. You can either use the Restart option available on your phone, or turn off your mobile and then turn it back on.
2. Check the volume level
If you have a Samsung phone, your phone supports separate volume control for notifications and ringtone. Sometimes the ringer volume is high, but the notification is kept at zero. So you should check this out.
To do this, press one of the volume buttons. When you see the volume panel on your screen, press the little down arrow. You will see the notification volume. Increase it.
You can access the same panel from Settings> Sound. Press Volume if you don’t see the volume sliders.
Note: If your phone does not have a separate volume control, increase the ringer volume level.
3. Check the connected Bluetooth headset

On phones with Android 7.1 Nougat and later, long press the Messages app icon on your home screen or in the app drawer and tap the app information or i icon Press Notifications.

Open your phone’s messaging app and tap the three-dot icon at the top. Select Settings, then Notifications.

First, make sure the main toggle next to Show notifications is on. If it is disabled, you will not receive message notifications.
Activate other notifications
With the main notification toggle enabled, tap all the notification categories such as General, Incoming messages, Behavior, and more. present on your phone. Any parameter with a bar on the right side contains more parameters. Activate them too.

Change default notification sound
Sometimes the sound you keep for your message notifications is problematic. So try to change it to another song. To do this, tap Sound in all settings under Notifications. Choose a new tone.
6. Check battery optimization
You should also take a look at your battery optimization settings. If the Messages app is added to the list, you will receive delayed notifications or no notifications. To fix this, you need to remove the app from the battery optimization list. To do this, go to Settings> Battery. Tap Battery optimization or Sleep apps and uncheck Messages. The steps may vary from phone to phone, but the basic concept is the same.
7. Check Do Not Disturb settings
Many times the Do not disturb mode (DND) is enabled on the phone, which is why you may not receive notifications. A simple way to check if it is activated is to consult the status bar. If you see a half-crescent icon or a bell or circle icon with a bar on it, it means that DND is enabled.
To turn it off, open Settings on your phone and go to Sound or Notifications. Disable the toggle next to Do not disturb. Sometimes the DND scheduled mode is activated. Disable it too. Also take a look at other DND settings.
8. Check third-party applications

9. Clear the cache

To clear the cache, do the following:

10. Reset application preferences
Finally, if nothing works, you need to reset the app preferences for your phone. This will not delete any of your data. This is a much better option than resetting your entire device.
